What is Lidl Connect Ireland?

Lidl Connect is a mobile service delivered with 1GLOBAL using the eir network in Ireland. Sign-up and ongoing plan management are handled through the Lidl Plus app.

The plan includes unlimited 5G data in Ireland, unlimited calls and texts to Irish and UK networks, 50GB of EU and UK roaming data, and up to 100 international call minutes per month to included destinations.

It is a monthly rolling SIM-only plan with no long-term commitment. You can cancel through the Lidl Plus app at any time.

Lidl Connect prices: €12.99 per month per line

The plan costs €12.99 per month per line. You can add lines for other family members through Lidl Plus, up to four lines in total. Each line costs the same monthly price.

What network does Lidl Connect use?

Lidl Connect uses eir’s mobile network in Ireland, the same underlying network used by GoMo and Lycamobile. Lidl Connect’s plan and roaming arrangements are its own, so sharing a network does not mean every feature is identical.

Unlimited 5G data

The €12.99 monthly plan includes unlimited 5G data. You need a 5G-capable phone and 5G coverage to use it.

Wi-Fi calling

Lidl says the service supports voice over Wi-Fi, also called Wi-Fi calling. This lets a compatible phone make calls over a Wi-Fi connection. Check support for your handset with Lidl, particularly if you depend on Wi-Fi calling indoors. Read our Irish Wi-Fi calling guide for more context.

VoLTE (voice over LTE) is also supported for calls over 4G on compatible phones.

Lidl Connect international calls: 100 minutes from Ireland

Lidl Connect includes up to 100 international call minutes per month for calls made from Ireland to the following destinations. This is a shared allowance across those destinations, rather than 100 minutes for each country.

Europe: the EU and EEA, Ukraine, Switzerland, San Marino and Andorra.
Further afield: Brazil, Canada, China, India, New Zealand, Australia and the United States.

UK calls are separate: calls and SMS to UK landline and mobile numbers are unlimited, including Northern Ireland. They do not use the 100-minute international call allowance. See Lidl’s international calling allowances and destinations.

Lidl Connect vs Lycamobile Go Unlimited

Lycamobile’s €20 Go Unlimited plan also includes 100 international minutes, to 31 countries. Lidl Connect compares well: its included destinations extend to countries such as Brazil, Canada, China, India, New Zealand, Australia and the US, at €12.99 per month per line.

Lycamobile’s 31 included international destinations

Lidl Connect calls, texts and roaming

Calling the UK from Ireland

Unlimited calls and texts include Irish and UK networks. That includes Northern Ireland, making the plan particularly useful if you regularly call or text people across the border.

Using your phone abroad

The plan includes 50GB of EU and UK roaming data. Unlimited domestic data does not mean unlimited data abroad. Calling a UK number from Ireland and roaming in the UK are separate uses of the plan.

Premium-rate numbers and phone competitions

Premium-rate numbers are blocked on Lidl Connect. You cannot enter phone or text competitions that require calling or texting a premium-rate number. See Lidl’s guidance on premium and special-service numbers for calls and SMS.

Lidl Connect vs Vodafone: EU roaming data

Lidl Connect includes 50GB of EU roaming data, with the UK also included in its roaming allowance. Vodafone is close behind in this comparison, offering 45GB of European roaming data on its eligible €20 pay-as-you-go plans. That gives Lidl Connect 5GB more roaming data, at €12.99 per month per line.

You sign up on your phone in Lidl Plus and manage the plan in the same app. You must be 18 or older to hold the Lidl Plus account, but you can add lines for other family members under your account.

Open or create your Lidl Plus account. Use the Irish Lidl Plus app and open the Lidl Connect section.
Set up Lidl Pay. Add a credit or debit card for the recurring monthly payment. A card can only be used with one Lidl Pay account; you cannot reuse it across multiple Lidl Plus accounts.
Choose a physical SIM or eSIM. Physical SIM cards cost 99c in Lidl shops. Alternatively, select an eSIM through the app if your phone is compatible.
Choose your number and activate. Keep your existing mobile number by requesting a transfer, or choose a new number. Complete registration and activation in the app.
Manage your plan in Lidl Plus. View plan and billing details, add family lines, or cancel through the app.

Do I need Lidl Plus and Lidl Pay to sign up?

Yes. You need an active Lidl Plus account and a credit or debit card registered in Lidl Pay. You must be at least 18 to hold a Lidl Plus account. A payment card can only be linked to one Lidl Pay account, so the same card cannot be used across several Lidl Plus accounts.
